The Voyage

Round trip from Montreal

Two weeks in the Saint Lawrence at the heart of winter. From Montreal, Le Commandant Charcot moves downriver through ice that has shaped Canadian history since the first European voyages. Quebec City, the Saguenay River, Sept-Îles, the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in their winter form - landscapes that summer travellers never see, and which most ships cannot reach at this time of year.

PONANT in Motion

© PONANT

This PONANT film offers a vivid impression of life aboard Le Commandant Charcot - onboard laboratories, panoramic observation areas and the extraordinary destinations that only this icebreaker reaches. This voyage follows the same spirit of polar discovery.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

  • Montréal · Embarkation

Montréal combines European flair with North American energy. The old town Vieux-Montréal with the Notre-Dame Basilica, Mont Royal as the green lung, and the cosmopolitan food culture (Canadian smoked meat, French-Canadian patisserie) make Montréal unique.

  • Québec

High above the St. Lawrence River in the Canadian province of the same name, this historic capital reigns as the only city in North America with intact fortified walls. The old town with its iconic Château Frontenac, cobbled lanes and French colonial flair is a UNESCO World Heritage site and regarded as the most European city on the continent.

  • La Baie (Saguenay)

District of Saguenay in the Canadian province of Quebec, set picturesquely at the end of the deep Saguenay Fjord. The fjord, one of the southernmost in the northern hemisphere, is home to belugas and outflow of the river of the same name.

  • Gaspé

Gaspé lies at the tip of the Gaspésie peninsula in the Canadian province of Quebec. The town marks the spot where Jacques Cartier claimed Canada in 1534.

  • Kreuzen im Sankt-Lorenz-Golf
  • Insel Saint Pierre, Saint-Pierre und Miquelon
  • Kreuzen im Sankt-Lorenz-Golf
  • Corner Brook (Newfoundland)

Corner Brook, with around 20,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in western Newfoundland and lies at the head of the Humber Arm fjord. From the nearby Marble Mountain ski area the view reaches across the Humber River and the Bay of Islands, where humpback whales occasionally surface.

  • Kreuzen im Sankt-Lorenz-Golf
  • Sept-Îles

On the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Quebec, Sept-Îles sits on a bay sheltered by seven offshore islands. The major port also serves as a launching point for trips to Anticosti Island and the Côte-Nord.
