Impressions of the Silver Wind Expedition
From Classic Fleet to Expedition Service
Silver Wind began life in 1995 as one of Silversea’s earliest vessels and accumulated a loyal following over nearly three decades as a classic all-suite ship. Her conversion to expedition configuration – Silver Wind Expedition – mirrors the transformation applied to Silver Cloud and brings the same logic: an existing vessel with a known character and a comfortable scale, adapted for polar and remote-destination itineraries with expedition equipment and an on-board specialist team.
With 274 guests and a crew of 239, she is the largest of Silversea’s expedition ships, which means she offers the broadest range of dining venues and public spaces within the expedition category while retaining the small-ship feel that the polar context requires.
Expedition Capabilities
Silver Wind Expedition carries an ice-strengthened hull, a Zodiac fleet for wet landings at remote sites, and an expedition team of naturalists, historians, and destination specialists. The Mud Room – standard Silversea expedition fitting – is where guests kit out before each shore excursion. Briefings and debriefs take place in the ship’s observation spaces.
Itinerary coverage includes Arctic Norway, Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, and Antarctica, with the seasonal split dictated by the northern and southern hemisphere summer periods.
Dining and Amenities
Dining venues on Silver Wind Expedition include The Restaurant for daily meals, La Terrazza for Italian cuisine, The Grill for poolside meals, and La Dame for French fine dining – the same four-venue configuration as the classic Shadow-class ships. All venues are included. A full spa, fitness centre, and the ship’s observation areas complete the on-board offering.
All-Suite, All-Inclusive
All accommodation is in suites with butler service. Expedition voyages on Silver Wind include excursions in the cost, which Silversea applies fleet-wide on polar sailings. Drinks, Wi-Fi, and gratuities are included, as they are throughout the Silversea fleet.
The combination of 274 guests with the all-inclusive expedition model makes Silver Wind Expedition one of the larger intimate-scale options available for guests who want the Silversea standard in genuinely remote destinations without reducing to the smallest vessel in the fleet.
