Eighteen Guests, One Thousand Square Metres of Sail
Chronos is a 54-metre Bermuda ketch carrying a maximum of 18 guests and 1,000 square metres of working sail. The arithmetic of that ratio tells you most of what you need to know about what it is like to be on board: the space is generous, the crew attention is genuine, and the sailing is the centre of gravity around which everything else is arranged.
She sails a programme that moves with the seasons, the Caribbean in winter, the Atlantic crossing in spring, the Mediterranean from late spring through autumn. The itineraries are chosen to give the ketch rig room to perform: open-water passages, island approaches under sail, anchorages in bays that a larger vessel could not reach. The schedule is real, but the sailing shapes it rather than the reverse.
The Ketch Rig
A Bermuda ketch carries two masts, main and mizzen, and is among the most versatile rigs in offshore sailing. It balances well in a range of conditions, handles easily with a small crew, and gives a ship of 54 metres the kind of sailing character normally associated with much smaller yachts. On a day when the conditions are right and the full 1,000 square metres of canvas are drawing, Chronos moves with a purpose and steadiness that guests find immediately impressive.
The crew handles the sails; guests who want to participate are welcome to do so, and those who prefer to watch from the deck or the cockpit are equally well positioned. There is no obligation to be a sailor. There is every encouragement to understand how it works, if you are curious.
Cabin Design for Real People
Chronos is notable among small sailing ships for thinking seriously about the question of berth length. The Long Cabin was designed specifically to accommodate taller guests, the double bed at 2.10 by 1.70 metres is genuinely long, a detail that becomes important after the first night at sea when the ship is moving and a short berth becomes uncomfortable. The Deluxe Cabin is the more standard option, well proportioned and finished to a premium level. Both categories include private en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning.
Eighteen guests means that cabin allocation matters. We are happy to discuss which option suits your requirements; please contact our team before booking.
The Rhythm of a Chronos Voyage
Days on Chronos tend to organise themselves around the sailing. There is a passage, and then there is an anchorage, and at the anchorage there is swimming from the hull, and then dinner, and then, if the sky permits, the stars that only become visible when a ship is truly away from the coast. The meals are taken communally, at a table where eighteen people eventually know each other well enough that the conversation does not require introduction. The crew is part of this dynamic: professional, present, and pleased to share what they know about the ship and the sea.
This is a sailing voyage for guests who want to be on a real sailing ship, in real places, with people who care about both.
