The western Mediterranean is Europe’s most varied sailing ground: the glamorous Côte d’Azur, the Balearics, wild Corsica and Sardinia, the smoke of Stromboli and the golden cities of Andalusia. Côte d’Azur and Liguria – Nice, Portofino and Elba
The glamorous north: from Nice and Monaco along the Italian Riviera to Portofino, on into the Tuscan Archipelago with Elba and Portoferraio. Elegant harbours, short hops and the finest sunsets over the Ligurian Sea.
The Balearics – Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza
Turquoise calas, pines down to the water and lively harbours. Mallorca combines the Tramuntana mountains with smart marinas, quiet Menorca tempts with secluded bays, Ibiza with Formentera and white beaches. A classic for yacht and catamaran.
Corsica and Sardinia – Ajaccio, Bonifacio and the Maddalena
Wild granite coasts and Caribbean-clear water. From Ajaccio and Calvi to the chalk-cliff town of Bonifacio, across to the Maddalena archipelago and Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. More demanding, unspoilt sailing between two islands.
Sicily, the Aeolian Islands and Malta – Syracuse, Stromboli and Valletta
The volcanic south: the Aeolian Islands with fire-spitting Stromboli, baroque Syracuse and Taormina, and the knights’ city of Valletta on Malta. Culture, volcanoes and warm water well into October.
Andalusia and the Spanish coast – Barcelona, Valencia and Málaga
The Iberian side: from Barcelona and Valencia along the coast to Andalusia with Málaga, Cartagena and Cádiz before the leap to Gibraltar. Lively cities, fine food and reliable wind.
