Ports of call

  • Kastelorizo
  • Fethiye
  • Dalyan
  • Symi
  • Patmos
  • Çesme
  • Bozcaada

Life on board

The Star Flyer is a classic fully rigged ship with four masts and 16 sails, 170 guests, sporty and unhurried in atmosphere, no dress code, open seating and two pools. Guests are welcome to climb the rigging with the crew or take the helm.

Route Highlights

  • Kastellorizo: easternmost Greek island with pastel-coloured houses around the natural harbour
  • Fethiye: rock-cut tombs of the Lycian kings from the 4th century BC in the cliff face
  • Dalyan: river trip to the mud baths and the ancient city of Caunos
  • Symi (Dodecanese): neoclassical captains’ houses arranged around the natural harbour of Gialos
  • Patmos (Dodecanese): Cave of the Apocalypse and Monastery of Saint John, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Bozcaada: wine-growing island in the Aegean off the ancient site of Troy

How the route could go:

Antalya Kastellorizo Fethiye Dalyan Symi Patmos Cesme Bozcaada Istanbul
9 ports · route · approx. 550 nautical miles
  • Antalya · Embarkation

This Turkish Mediterranean metropolis is the gateway to the Turkish Riviera and home to Kaleiçi, a well-preserved Ottoman and Roman old town. Hadrian's Gate from 130 AD and the Antalya Museum with its Lycian finds are among the highlights.

  • Kastellorizo
  • Fethiye

This Turkish port on the Lycian coast stands on the remains of ancient Telmessos and is known for its rock-cut Lycian royal tombs. The ghost town of Kayaköy and the turquoise lagoon of Ölüdeniz lie within easy reach of the harbour.

  • Dalyan

Dalyan lies in the south-western Turkish province of Muğla, where the eponymous river winds through a vast labyrinth of reeds between Lake Köyceğiz and the Mediterranean. Above the boat trips loom the rock-cut Lycian tombs of ancient Kaunos, and on the offshore İztuzu beach loggerhead turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.

  • Symi

Symi surprises with one of the most beautiful harbours in the Aegean: step by step, neoclassical houses in ochre, terracotta and garnet climb up the hill. The island belongs to the Dodecanese and is accessible from Rhodes. The Panormitis monastery in the south is an important Orthodox pilgrimage destination.

  • Patmos

On Patmos, the apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation in the Cave of the Apocalypse. The UNESCO-protected Monastery of Saint John the Theologian rises above the white-and-blue Chora - one of the most important Christian sites in the eastern Mediterranean.

  • Cesme

Çeşme on Turkey's Aegean coast is known for its Genoese castle on the harbour, thermal springs and the long sandy beaches and steady winds of Alaçatı - one of the Mediterranean's leading windsurfing centres.

  • Bozcaada

Bozcaada (in Greek: Tenedos) lies off Turkey's Troad coast and is the smallest inhabited island in Turkey. A Venetian castle, vineyards, narrow cobblestone lanes and a lively café scene give this island its slow-paced charm.

  • Istanbul · Disembarkation

Istanbul is the only city in the world that lies on two continents. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar concentrate more world history than any other city on the Bosphorus.

The route of a sailing voyage may change without giving rise to mutual claims.

Shore Excursions

Selected highlights at the ports on this route. Water sports – kayaking, snorkelling, paddleboarding, windsurfing – are complimentary directly from the ship. Shore excursions are bookable on board.

Patmos

  • Cave of the Apocalypse & Monastery of Saint John
  • Medieval hilltop village of Chora

Symi

  • Neoclassical harbour staircase
  • Panormitis Monastery in the south

Dalyan

  • Lycian rock tombs along the river
  • İztuzu turtle beach (Caretta caretta)
  • Healing mud baths of Sultaniye

The Ship

Star Flyer

Star Flyer was in 1991 the first ship of the Star Clippers fleet - proof that commercial sailing cruises need not be nostalgia. Four-masted barquentine, 16 sails, 166 guests: travel under sail without compromising on comfort.

In the Aegean and along the Turkish coast, Star Flyer shows what she was built for: sailing between islands that have drawn seafarers since antiquity.
