The Voyage

Central America from/to Puerto Caldera

Seven nights under white sails through one of the most biodiverse natural cruising grounds in the world. From Puerto Caldera the Star Clipper sails south along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica to Panama’s Coiba Island and back. Rainforest, offshore islands and bays with whales and dolphins.

Highlights of the route

  • Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most accessible rainforests in Central America, with sloths, capuchin monkeys and white-sand beaches
  • Golfito with the Piedras Blancas reserve, dense rainforest with howler monkeys and toucans
  • Coiba Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest uninhabited island in Central America, one of the best diving grounds of the Pacific
  • Isla Parida, sheltered snorkelling grounds with coral reefs
  • Isla Tortuga in the Gulf of Nicoya, white sand and crystal-clear water to round off the voyage

Life on board

The Star Clipper is a classic fully rigged ship with four masts and 16 sails, 170 guests, sporty and unhurried in atmosphere, no dress code, open seating and two pools. Guests are welcome to climb the rigging with the crew or take the helm.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2028 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

Puerto Caldera

How the route could go:

Puerto Caldera Isla de Coiba Isla Parida Golfito Quepos Isla Tortuga
6 ports · route · approx. 470 nautical miles
  • Puerto Caldera · Embarkation

On Costa Rica's Pacific coast in Puntarenas Province on the Gulf of Nicoya, this modern port has become the country's principal Pacific handling site. It serves as a cruise call and gateway to the central Pacific region's national parks such as Manuel Antonio and Carara.

  • Isla de Coiba

Isla de Coiba off Panama's Pacific coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site and Panama's largest national park. A penal colony until 2004, the island is today a refuge for untouched tropical forest, schools of hammerhead sharks and more than 760 fish species.

  • Isla Parida (Islas Paridas)
  • Golfito

Golfito sits on a sheltered bay in southern Costa Rica, framed by dense rainforest and the Osa Peninsula. The former banana port is now a gateway for tours into Corcovado National Park.

  • Quepos

Quepos lies on Costa Rica's central Pacific coast and is the gateway to the famous Manuel Antonio National Park. Monkeys, sloths and beautiful bays await visitors right on the doorstep.

  • Isla Tortuga

In the Gulf of Nicoya off Costa Rica's Pacific coast lies the uninhabited Isla Tortuga in the Puntarenas province. The small tropical island is known for its white coral sand beaches, crystal-clear snorkelling waters with colourful reef fish and mangroves that shelter toucans and capuchin monkeys.
