The Voyage

Singapore to Tanjung Benoa

Fourteen nights aboard Le Soléal cross the Indonesian archipelago from Singapore to Bali. The route links harbour cities of long sultanate history, remote Indian Ocean islands and the smoking Krakatoa group. The 184-guest, 142-metre Ponant Classic ship balances the long distances with French cuisine and Zodiac landings on reefs and volcanic beaches.

Route highlights

  • Singapore: gleaming city state and hub of Southeast Asia.
  • Malakka: old spice port on the Strait of Malacca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shaped by Portuguese and Dutch heritage.
  • Banda Aceh: northern tip of Sumatra, defined by sultanate tradition and the great Baiturrahman Mosque.
  • Nias Island: island off Sumatra with megalithic stone villages and its own tradition of stone jumping.
  • Krakatoa Volcano: volcanic group in the Sunda Strait whose Anak Krakatau grew out of the famous 1883 eruption.
  • Semarang: harbour on Java and gateway to the Buddhist World Heritage of Borobudur.
  • Probolinggo: starting point for the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park with its active volcanoes.
  • Tanjung Benoa (Bali): island paradise of temples, rice terraces and Hindu culture.

Singapore is a city-state, harbour and one of the most fascinating metropolises in Asia. Gardens by the Bay, the infinity pool of Marina Bay Sands and the Botanic Gardens (UNESCO World Heritage) combine ultramodern architecture with tropical nature.

  • Malakka

On the strait between Sumatra and Malaysia's west coast lies historic Melaka, a former sultanate and colonial trading hub. Portuguese, Dutch and British layers shape the UNESCO World Heritage old town around the 17th-century Stadthuys and the A Famosa fortress of 1511.

  • At sea
  • Banda Aceh, Sumatra

Banda Aceh lies at the north-western tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is the capital of the conservative Muslim province of Aceh. The city was nearly destroyed by the Indian Ocean tsunami on 26 December 2004, and a beached ship in the city centre stands as a memorial to the disaster.

  • Mentawai-Inseln, Sumatra
  • Insel Enggano
  • Kreuzen um Krakatoa
  • At sea
  • Semarang (Java)

On the north coast of the Indonesian island of Java, Semarang is the capital of Central Java province. Dutch colonial buildings in the Kota Lama quarter and the nearby Buddhist Borobudur make this harbour distinctive.

  • Insel Bawean
  • Probolinggo, Java

On the north coast of East Java in Indonesia between Surabaya and the Bromo volcanic region, this port city serves as the launching point for excursions to the spectacular Tengger volcanic complex of Bromo, Semeru and Batok. The nearby sand seas within the volcanic caldera count among Indonesia's most famous landscapes.
