The Voyage

Martinique & Lesser Antilles from/to Fort-de-France

A week across the southern Lesser Antilles aboard Le Bougainville. Departing Fort-de-France, the route reaches the Grenadines with Union, the Tobago Cays and Mayreau, calls at Bequia, continues to Pigeon Island and Soufriere on St Lucia and ends at the Îles des Saintes. The explorer ship for 184 guests offers premium all-inclusive service with wines and spirits at meals. The marina opens for watersports at anchor, while the Blue Eye underwater lounge reveals the Caribbean reef just below the surface.

Route highlights

  • Fort-de-France: Capital of Martinique with a Creole marché and French cafés.
  • Union Insel: Southernmost inhabited Grenadine island and a kitesurfers' paradise.
  • Tobago Cays Inseln: Uninhabited reef archipelago with turtles and coral gardens.
  • Mayreau: Tiny island with Saltwhistle Bay and views of its single village.
  • Port Elizabeth: Bequia's main town with whaling traditions and a quiet harbour.
  • Pigeon Island: National park off St Lucia with Fort Rodney on the hill.
  • Soufriere: Beneath the Pitons, St Lucia's UNESCO World Heritage.
  • Îles des Saintes: A small French archipelago south of Guadeloupe.

Fort-de-France

Fort-de-France Union Island Tobago Cays Islands Mayreau Port Elizabeth (Bequia) Pigeon Island Soufriere Îles des Saintes
8 ports · route · approx. 16,020 nautical miles
  • Fort-de-France · Embarkation

The capital of Martinique glows in Caribbean colours, with Creole architecture, lively markets and French cuisine. Particularly striking are the ruins of Saint-Pierre, the "Caribbean Pompeii", buried in 1902 by the eruption of Montagne Pelée.

  • Union Island
  • Tobago Cays (Tobago Cays)

The Tobago Cays are five uninhabited small islands in the Grenadines, sheltered by a vast coral reef. Turquoise lagoon water, sea turtles for snorkelling and untouched nature make the Tobago Cays perhaps the most beautiful anchorage in the Caribbean.

  • Mayreau

Mayreau is the smallest inhabited island of the Grenadines. Salt Whistle Bay - a perfect crescent of beach with crystal-clear water - is considered one of the finest bays in the Caribbean.

  • Port Elizabeth, Bequia

Port Elizabeth on Bequia (Grenadines) is the most charming Caribbean harbour for yachts. The small bay with wooden schooner boatyards on the beach, the turtle conservation programme and the whaling tradition make Port Elizabeth unique.

  • Pigeon Island Beach
  • Soufrière (St. Lucia)

On the west coast of the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, Soufrière sits at the foot of the striking Pitons volcanic peaks. Sulphur springs, rainforest and a botanical garden make the town a nature destination.

  • Les Saintes

Small archipelago south of Guadeloupe in the French Antilles arc of the Caribbean, with Terre-de-Haut as its main settlement. The sheltered bay ranks among the world's most beautiful natural harbours and recalls Brittany with its white houses.
