Malaga to Gran Canaria
Ten nights from Malaga across Andalusia and the Moroccan Atlantic coast to three Canarian islands. On this autumn voyage Le Boreal combines Iberian heritage with the volcanic worlds of the Canaries, with Tangier and Casablanca as the Moroccan poles in between. The marina platform and Zodiacs extend the options in smaller harbours, while premium all-inclusive service with French cuisine accompanies the days between continents. The itinerary weaves city, coast and volcano in close succession.
Route highlights
- Seville: Andalusian capital on the Guadalquivir with cathedral, Giralda and Alcazar.
- Tangier: whitewashed medina at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar with views across two continents.
- Casablanca: Morocco's largest city beside the immense Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic.
- Funchal (Madeira): subtropical island famed for its botanical garden and legendary levada walking paths.
- Santa Cruz de La Palma: colonial old town beneath the Caldera de Taburiente, on the island with Europe's clearest starry sky.
- Arrecife (Lanzarote): gateway to the surreal volcanic landscape of Timanfaya National Park.
- Gran Canaria: disembarkation at Las Palmas with the Catedral de Santa Ana and Vegueta quarter.
Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

Málaga · Embarkation
On the Costa del Sol in Andalusia on Spain's southern Mediterranean coast lies Málaga at the foot of the El Torcal mountains. Birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the city is today a major cultural hub with the Picasso Museum, the Moorish Alcazaba from the 11th century, the Roman theatre ruins and a lively harbour quarter around the Muelle Uno.
-
Sevilla
Seville is the capital of Andalusia and the birthplace of flamenco, tapas culture and bullfighting. The Cathedral (the third largest in the world), the Alcázar palace (UNESCO) and the Santa Cruz quarter with its white houses and orange trees shape the city.
-
Tanger
Tangier sits on the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet. The medina with its narrow lanes, the kasbah above the harbour and the unique play of light between two continents drew painters such as Henri Matisse here.
-
Casablanca
Casablanca is Morocco's economic heart. The Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic (one of the tallest minarets in the world at 210 m), the Art Deco architecture of the city centre and the charm of the Quartier Habous make Casablanca North Africa's most modern city.

Funchal, Madeira
The Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira has its capital at Funchal, home to around 110,000 inhabitants. The city rises like an amphitheatre above a southern bay, famed for its Madeira wine, the spectacular wicker toboggan ride down from Monte and the Mercado dos Lavradores with tropical fruits.
-
Santa Cruz de La Palma, Kanarische Insel
La Palma is known as the "Isla Bonita" of the Canaries and one of the greenest islands in the archipelago. Excursions lead to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park - a vast erosion-crater gorge with endemic forest - as well as to the Roque de los Muchachos observatory centre on the summit plateau.

Destination
Le Boréal
Le Boréal was the first ship of the Odyssée class and marked Ponant's move into expedition cruising. 264 guests, ice-reinforced hull, two restaurants - a ship built equally for the passage to the North Cape and the islands of the South Seas.
The Canaries are for Le Boréal a transitional sailing ground between Europe and the tropics - volcanic landscapes, spring-like climate and ports with Canarian character.
