Callao → Valparaíso
This compact five-night leg connects Peru's capital Lima with the Chilean port of Valparaíso. Aboard L'Austral, a 184-guest sistership of the Ponant Classic fleet, you enjoy premium all-inclusive service, a French-inspired onboard experience and a marina platform at the stern. The route follows the Pacific coast along the Atacama region and Chile's coastal desert and works well as a connecting leg before or after a longer South American voyage. Classic shore excursions in Lima and Valparaíso bookend the cruise, with sea days in between for the spa and the restaurants.
Route highlights
- Callao: gateway port for Lima, with access to the colonial centre, the Larco Museum and the UNESCO-listed old town.
- Pacific sea days: calm passages along the Atacama region, ideal for lectures, spa and dining.
- Chilean coastline: views of rugged coastal desert with the Andes rising in the distance.
- Valparaíso: UNESCO harbour city of colourful hills and funiculars, with onward links to Santiago de Chile and the Casablanca wine valley.

Callao · Embarkation
Callao is Peru's most important Pacific port, immediately west of the capital Lima. The Spanish fortress of Real Felipe once protected the silver fleets, and today the harbour serves both container ships and expedition cruisers bound for the Galápagos.

Destination
L'Austral
L'Austral belongs to Ponant's Odyssée class: 264 guests, ice-reinforced hull, French cuisine with wine at dinner. Large enough for comfort on the open sea, small enough for fjords, pack ice boundaries and islands without a harbour.
Along the South American coast, L'Austral sails through the fjords of Patagonia to Cape Horn - expedition routes in one of the earth's last great wildernesses.
