Catamaran Voyage Croatia
Central Dalmatia from Trogir is one of the loveliest and most sheltered sailing grounds in the Adriatic: crystal-clear water, Venetian stone towns right at the quayside and a dense chain of islands with short passages in between. The route runs from the UNESCO old town of Trogir via the quiet island of Šolta to Hvar with the Pakleni islands offshore, on to the remote island of Vis and the Blue Cave of Biševo, before returning via Stari Grad to Trogir.
Highlights
- Blue Cave (Biševo) - a sea cave where the morning light turns the water a glowing silvery blue
- Vis - long closed to visitors as a military zone and therefore still unspoilt, with quiet bays and good wine
- Hvar and the Pakleni islands - a lavender island with a lively harbour town and an archipelago of small anchorages
- Trogir - a UNESCO World Heritage site, a mediaeval stone town on its own small island

Region: Croatia - Central Dalmatia from Trogir
What makes this region special
The Croatian Adriatic is one of the densest island cruising grounds in the world: more than a thousand islands, around fifty of them inhabited, and between them water famous for its clarity. In summer it turns from deep blue to turquoise depending on the seabed and the angle of the sun. The distances are short, a day's leg rarely longer than three or four hours.
This voyage stays in central Dalmatia, the heart of the region. Trogir and Stari Grad on Hvar are both UNESCO World Heritage sites, the one a compact mediaeval stone town, the other among the oldest towns in Europe with its ancient Greek field system. Hvar is the most fashionable of the islands, famous for lavender and the small Pakleni islands off its harbour. Vis was a military zone until 1989 and remained almost untouched. Off the neighbouring island of Biševo, the Blue Cave glows a silvery blue in the morning.
Short distances, sheltered bays and a stone town at the quay each evening - central Dalmatia is a region to savour, not to rack up miles.
