Katamaranreise Andamanen-See

10 nights Vessel: Lagoon 620 Up to 12 guests on board

Ten nights in the Andaman Sea between Thailand and Myanmar: the Mergui Archipelago with around 800 largely uninhabited islands, one of the most unspoilt cruising grounds in South-East Asia.

Recommended for travellers seeking something out of the ordinary. Long passages across open water, stops at deserted beaches, encounters with the Moken sea gypsies. Season December to April.

Vessel

Lagoon 620

Premium comfort aboard one of the most spacious sailing catamarans - generous room combined with excellent sailing characteristics without heeling. Aboard this spacious catamaran you will find room and privacy not only in the six double cabins with private bathroom. Favourite spots are the sun loungers on the expansive flybridge with helm station and bar, as well as the airy cockpit with benches and sun loungers on the foredeck. A bimini provides shade from the sun. Refined wood joinery in the saloon, large panorama windows, a spacious galley. The Lagoon 620 has been built for more than ten years by the French Lagoon shipyard (Beneteau Group) in Bordeaux, with attention to detail in every corner. On board

A relaxed yacht holiday

Simply enjoy yourself. Plenty of space on the flybridge, in the cockpit, on the trampoline net and in the saloon. Cabins with private bathroom, partially air-conditioned.

Atmosphere on board

You and your fellow travellers spend a relaxed time together. The professional crew (skipper and cook/bosun) looks after the well-being and safety of the guests. You are a guest and may unwind; you are not expected to lend a hand. The aim: a relaxed time with fine memories. The catamaran is typically under way for two to four hours a day.

Activities

  • Swimming from the platform at the anchor stops
  • Shore excursions or going ashore independently
  • Water sports: kayaks or SUP, snorkelling
  • Relaxing on board during the passage to the next anchorage
  • Time on the beach

Adventure at sea

Gliding over the waves on the trampoline net between the hulls. On this cruise aboard a sailing catamaran there is no entitlement to the vessel proceeding under sail; in unfavourable winds she will also proceed under engine.

Simply arrive and unwind.

Cabins

Spacious, finely appointed cabins aboard the Lagoon 620

The catamaran offers 6 double cabins for 12 guests. Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower and WC. Standard cabins are located amidships in the hulls. The Superior Cabins are positioned forward or aft in the hull, are slightly larger and brighter.

Route

The markers show possible anchorages. The skipper selects the specific places on site, depending on current conditions. Route, stops and order may change at the skipper's discretion. No mutual claims arise from route adjustments. Claims are not excluded where the route change is wilfully caused by the guest.

Day by day

How your route could unfold:

  1. Day 1

Phuket, Yacht Haven Marina - Koh Naka

Embarkation in the late afternoon at Yacht Haven Marina in the north of Phuket. Passage to Koh Naka, dropping anchor at sunset over Phang Nga Bay. Dinner at anchor off a white-sand beach.

  2. Day 2

Koh Naka - Koh Pak Bia - Koh Hong Krabi

The Koh Pak Bia are two small islands off Krabi with white sand and turquoise water - ideal for snorkelling and swimming. The town of Krabi with its markets shows traditional Thai architecture and local craftsmanship. Overnight at anchor.

  3. Day 3

Koh Hong Krabi - Ao Nang - Railay

Railay Bay is one of the world's best-known climbing destinations - framed by towering limestone cliffs and reachable only by boat. Hidden lagoons await exploration. Ao Nang, by contrast, is the lively coastal town with restaurants, bars and shops.

  4. Day 4

Ao Nang - Railay - Koh Lanta

Stop at Koh Gai ("Chicken Island") with snorkelling spots by the eponymous "chicken head" rock. Onward to the west coast of Koh Lanta for sunset. Koh Lanta is home to the Chao Leh - sea nomads with their own language and way of life. Vibrant coral reefs make the island a favourite snorkelling and diving area.

  5. Day 5

Koh Lanta - Koh Muk (Emerald Cave)

Continuing south to the Trang Archipelago and the Emerald Cave Tham Morakot - an 80 m cave through which one swims to a hidden lagoon. Additional stops at Koh Kradan or Koh Ngai for snorkelling.

  6. Day 6

    Koh Muk - Koh Rok

Koh Rok belongs to the Mu Ko Lanta National Park (established 1990). It is home to sea turtles and blacktip reef sharks. The small islands in the Andaman Sea offer unspoilt natural beauty and crystal-clear water teeming with marine life. A quiet, hidden spot.

  7. Day 7

Koh Rok - Koh Phi Phi Islands

Longer passage northwards to the Phi Phi Islands with majestic limestone formations, lively nightlife and colourful beaches. Arrival shortly before sunset.

  8. Day 8

Koh Phi Phi & Phi Phi Leh (Maya Bay)

Early-morning visit to Maya Bay ahead of the daytime crowds - the iconic film setting from "The Beach". A full day to explore Phi Phi Leh and the surrounding islands.

  9. Day 9

Koh Phi Phi - Koh Racha Group

The Racha (Raya) Islands were once pirate hideouts with secluded bays and caves. Today luxury resorts and unspoilt beaches define the picture. Water sports with snorkelling and kayaking.

  10. Day 10

    Koh Racha - Koh Naka

Returning northwards towards Phuket. The Naka Islands lie less than 20 minutes off the north-east coast of Phuket - broad sandy beaches beneath tall coconut palms. Beach, kayak, swimming, snorkelling.

  11. Day 11

Koh Naka - Yacht Haven Marina

Early return to the marina. Disembarkation in the morning.

Region: Andaman Sea and Phuket - limestone karst in western Thailand

The Andaman Sea west of the Malay Peninsula is one of the most iconic sailing regions of Southeast Asia. More than a thousand islands and islets lie scattered between Phuket, Krabi and the offshore nature parks. Rugged limestone cliffs - geologically karst towers from the Pliocene - rise vertically from the sea, their caves hiding lagoon-like beaches. The water is turquoise and clear to a depth of 20 metres.

The Phi Phi Islands with Maya Bay (known from "The Beach"), Phang Nga Bay with James Bond Island, the Surin and Similan Islands for diving and snorkelling experiences at Thailand's finest coral reef - several national parks protect the region. The floating villages of the Moken (sea nomads) and Buddhist temples on Koh Yao add cultural depth.

Aboard, fresh seafood from the day's catch, Thai curries with local vegetables from the market, and a friendly population. Travel time exclusively the dry season November to April - during the rainy season (May-October) sailing operations on the west side are paused.
