The Voyage

Dublin to Glasgow (Greenock)

Aboard L'Austral this seven-night voyage links the Celtic worlds of Ireland, the Isle of Man and Scotland. From Dublin you cross the Irish Sea, sail along Ireland's northern coast and continue into the Hebrides and the Firth of Clyde. The marina platform and Zodiacs open up smaller harbours off the main routes, while premium all-inclusive and French refinement set the tone on board.

Route highlights

  • Dublin: Lively capital on the Liffey with Trinity College, the Book of Kells and Georgian architecture.
  • Douglas: Capital of the Isle of Man with its Victorian promenade and Celtic heritage.
  • Belfast: Northern Irish capital with the Titanic Quarter and Cathedral Quarter.
  • Greencastle: Fishing village on Lough Foyle, gateway to the Inishowen peninsula.
  • Killybegs: Ireland's largest fishing harbour, nestled in the Donegal hills.
  • Oban: Gateway to the Inner Hebrides, marked by McCaig's Tower above the bay.
  • Rothesay: A former Victorian resort on the Isle of Bute, home to Rothesay Castle.
  • Glasgow (Greenock): Atlantic harbour on the Firth of Clyde, Scotland's industrial and cultural metropolis.

Dublin Douglas Belfast Greencastle Killybegs Oban Rothesay Glasgow (Greenock)
8 ports · route · approx. 440 nautical miles
  • Dublin · Embarkation

Dublin is the starting point for Ireland's wildest coastal landscapes. Excursions head to the Cliffs of Moher (214 m above the Atlantic) and to Newgrange - a megalithic tomb more than 5,000 years old, older than Stonehenge and Egypt's pyramids. The Guinness Storehouse and the Book of Kells at Trinity College are city must-sees.

  • Douglas (Isle of Man)

Douglas is the capital of the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland. The two-kilometre horse-drawn tramway along the seafront is the oldest in the world, and in June the famous Tourist Trophy motorbike races thunder through the hills around the town.

  • Belfast, Nordirland

Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland and birthplace of the Titanic. The Titanic Belfast Museum at the original dry dock, the political mural heritage of the Troubles and the literary tradition (C.S. Lewis, Seamus Heaney) make Belfast multi-layered.

  • Greencastle

At the entrance to Lough Foyle in County Donegal lies Greencastle on Ireland's northernmost coast. The fishing village houses the Inishowen Maritime Museum with exhibits on emigration and shipwrecks, and the 14th-century Norman ruin of Greencastle keeps watch over the harbour entrance.

  • Killybegs

Bustling fishing harbour on the rugged Atlantic coast of Ireland's County Donegal. The republic's busiest fishing port lies sheltered in Killybegs Harbour and is the gateway to the 600-metre Slieve League cliffs.

  • Oban, Schottland

Oban lies on Scotland's west coast and is known as the gateway to the Hebrides. The Victorian harbour town is famed for its whisky distillery and the striking McCaig's Tower above the town.

  • Rothesay, Isle of Bute

Rothesay nestles in a sheltered bay on the Scottish island of Bute in the Firth of Clyde. Victorian promenades and the striking 13th-century Rothesay Castle define the island's main town.

The Ship

L'Austral

L'Austral belongs to Ponant's Odyssée class: 264 guests, ice-reinforced hull, French cuisine with wine at dinner. Large enough for comfort on the open sea, small enough for fjords, pack ice boundaries and islands without a harbour.

In northern Europe, L'Austral sails through Norwegian fjords and along the Scottish coast - natural encounters with the comfort of a French hotel.
