Aegean from/to Athens (Piraeus)
Seven nights under white sails through the eastern Aegean. From Athens, the Star Flyer sets course for the eastern Aegean islands of Samos and Patmos, the Turkish coast at Kuşadası (Ephesus), and the Cyclades islands of Amorgos, Mykonos and Sifnos. Life on board
The Star Flyer is a classic fully rigged ship with four masts and 16 sails, 170 guests, sporty and unhurried in atmosphere, no dress code, open seating and two pools. Guests are welcome to climb the rigging with the crew or take the helm. Cooking blends Mediterranean and Greek accents, with an open-air grill on deck during the day.

Piraeus is the gateway to Athens, Europe's oldest major city. The Acropolis with the Parthenon has towered over the city for 2,500 years - surrounded by a lively café culture and one of the finest fish markets in the Aegean.

Samos
In the eastern Aegean, close to the Turkish coast, rises the green Greek island of Samos. Birthplace of the mathematician Pythagoras, it is also home to the ancient Heraion sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kusadasi
Kusadasi on Turkey's Aegean coast is the gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus - one of the best-preserved ruined cities in the world, with the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The historic centre and the bazaar invite a leisurely wander.

Patmos
On Patmos, the apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation in the Cave of the Apocalypse. The UNESCO-protected Monastery of Saint John the Theologian rises above the white-and-blue Chora - one of the most important Christian sites in the eastern Mediterranean.

Amorgos
Amorgos is the easternmost of the Cyclades and perhaps the most dramatic, its steep mountain flanks plunging straight into a deep blue sea. Pressed into a cliff face 300 metres high, the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa gleams dazzling white above the water; founded in 1088, it is still home to a handful of monks. On the coast below lies the bay of Agia Anna, immortalised by Luc Besson in his 1988 film The Big Blue. High above it all stands the Chora, a labyrinth of whitewashed lanes and old windmills that seems to have forgotten time.

Mykonos
Mykonos is the most international of the Greek islands - whitewashed cube houses, blue domes, windmills and a nightlife that lasts until morning. Little Venice with its captains' balconies right above the sea is one of the most photographed scenes in Greece.

Sifnos
In the western Cyclades of the Greek Aegean, the island of Sifnos is known for its pottery tradition, whitewashed churches and traditional cuisine. Hiking trails connect old watchtowers and hidden coves.
