The Voyage

Galápagos Islands from and to San Cristóbal

A week aboard Silver Origin draws the diversity of the Galápagos into a dense sequence of expedition encounters. The 100-guest vessel sails only in the archipelago and provides licensed naturalist guides for every activity. Suites with butler service, premium wines and spirits, Wi-Fi and gratuities are included. January falls in the heart of the warm wet season, with excellent snorkelling visibility.

Route highlights

  • San Cristóbal: start of the voyage with a sea lion colony at the pier and Cerro Brujo beach.
  • Genovesa: bird paradise in a flooded caldera with red-footed boobies and frigatebirds.
  • Santiago: fur seals at Puerto Egas and the lava fields of Sullivan Bay.
  • Isabela: western volcanic coast with Galápagos penguins and tortoises.
  • Fernandina: Punta Espinoza with the world's largest marine iguana colony.
  • Santa Cruz: the Charles Darwin Research Station and highlands with giant tortoises.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2028 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

  • SAT · 22 Jan 2028
    San Cristóbal · Embarkation
    Departure 16:15

San Cristóbal is the oldest inhabited island in the Galápagos and home to the capital Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. First encounters with the Galápagos ecosystem: curious sea lions on the jetties, blue-footed boobies and giant tortoises in the national park.

  • SAT · 22 Jan 2028
    Kicker Rock
    Arrival 17:15

Kicker Rock (León Dormido) is a split volcanic cone rising from the sea near San Cristóbal. Hammerhead sharks, sea lions, Galápagos turtles and rays swim through the channel between the rocks - a diver's paradise.

  • SUN · 23 Jan 2028
    Isla Bartolome

Bartolomé is the most photographed island in the Galápagos: Pinnacle Rock - a basalt spike rising from the sea - is the archipelago's iconic motif. Galápagos penguins, hammerhead sharks and sea turtles populate the waters.

  • SUN · 23 Jan 2028
    Buccaneer Cove
    Arrival 12:00

This sheltered bay on the north-western coast of Santiago in the Galápagos once served buccaneers and whalers as an anchorage. Rust-red tuff cliffs and striking rock pinnacles line the shore, where sea lions, marine iguanas and seabirds gather.

  • MON · 24 Jan 2028
    Punta Vicente Roca

Punta Vicente Roca lies at the northern tip of Isabela and offers dramatic volcanic cliffs with deep sea caves. In the crystal-clear water swim Galápagos penguins, sea turtles and hammerhead sharks in great numbers.

  • MON · 24 Jan 2028
    Bolivar Canal
    Arrival 12:00

The Bolívar Channel separates the Galápagos islands of Isabela and Fernandina. The cold, upwelling Cromwell Current makes this strait one of the archipelago's richest waters, frequented by whales, dolphins, Galápagos penguins and flightless cormorants.

  • MON · 24 Jan 2028
    Punta Espinoza
    Arrival 15:00

This headland on Fernandina, the youngest and most volcanically active island in the Galápagos, hosts one of the largest colonies of marine iguanas on earth. Across the black lava fields rises the La Cumbre volcano, and flightless cormorants, Galápagos penguins and sea lions share the shore.

  • TUE · 25 Jan 2028
    Tagus Cove

This deeply cut inlet on the west coast of Isabela was an anchorage for whalers over centuries, and their carved ship names still mark the rock walls. A trail leads up to the saline Darwin Lake, while penguins and flightless cormorants swim in the surrounding waters.

  • TUE · 25 Jan 2028
    Elizabeth Bay
    Arrival 12:00

Elizabeth Bay lies on the western coast of the Galápagos island of Isabela and forms a branching mangrove inlet. Galápagos penguins, manta rays and green sea turtles share the calm channels, where Zodiac cruises through the root labyrinths rank among the most serene and striking Galápagos experiences.

  • WED · 26 Jan 2028
    Post Office Bay

A wooden barrel post box has stood in this bay on Floreana since the eighteenth century, where whalers once left letters for homeward-bound ships to carry onward. Visitors still leave postcards here and take away mail to deliver by hand.

  • WED · 26 Jan 2028
    Champion Islet
    Arrival 12:00

This small islet off Floreana is one of the last refuges of the highly endangered Floreana mockingbird. Its steep shores offer excellent snorkelling in clear water alongside sea lions and colourful reef fish.

  • WED · 26 Jan 2028
    Punta Cormorant
    Arrival 15:00

Punta Cormorant on Floreana offers a sparkling green olivine sand beach and a brackish lagoon with flamingos. Manta rays and hammerhead sharks in the waters off the beach are among the most exciting encounters.

  • THU · 27 Jan 2028
    Santa Cruz Highlands

The Santa Cruz Highlands are home to the El Chato tortoise reserve and free-ranging giant tortoises in their natural habitat. The lava tunnels - underground caves formed by lava flow - can be explored on foot. In the rainy season the highlands stay lush and green.

  • THU · 27 Jan 2028
    Fausto Llerena Breeding Center
    Arrival 12:00

The breeding centre at the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz raises Galápagos giant tortoises for reintroduction to their home islands. It was also home, until 2012, to Lonesome George, the last tortoise of Pinta Island.

  • FRI · 28 Jan 2028
    Cerro Dragon

Dragon Hill in the north of Santa Cruz owes its name to the yellow land iguanas that live on its slopes. A trail passes a brackish lagoon that often draws flamingos and opens up broad views across the surrounding islands.

  • FRI · 28 Jan 2028
    Isla Guy Fawkes
    Arrival 12:00

Isla Guy Fawkes is a group of small rocky islets north-west of Santa Cruz, known for its abundant sea lion colonies. The name dates back to the British buccaneer era. Snorkelling here allows encounters with hammerhead sharks and rays.
