The Voyage

Longyearbyen to Reykjavík

This seventeen-night expedition with Silver Endeavour runs from Longyearbyen on Svalbard across polar waters down to Reykjavík. The long line links the high Svalbard archipelago with Iceland and leaves ample room for landings, ice permitting, lectures and onboard programme. The PC6 expedition ship is built for polar conditions and the expedition team runs daily Zodiac trips. Premium all-inclusive means butler service, premium wines, gratuities and Wi-Fi already included. The midnight sun of the polar summer shapes the atmosphere.

Route highlights

  • Longyearbyen as the Arctic starting point
  • Svalbard islands in the polar summer
  • Long polar-sea legs with onboard programme
  • Zodiac landings in expedition style
  • Lectures and wildlife briefings
  • Approach to Iceland
  • Arrival in Reykjavík as the closing stop

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

    Departure 23:30

Longyearbyen on Svalbard is the world's northernmost town with a permanent civilian population (78° N). The former coal-mining settlement is today the gateway to the Arctic - dog sledding, winter aurora, midnight sun in summer and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

  • THU · 12 Aug 2027
    Svalbard Northern Region

Northern Svalbard is one of the last refuges of the polar bear - up to 3,000 of these animals live on the archipelago. Glacier ice dominates the coastal landscape; walruses rest on ice floes, humpback whales feed in the nutrient-rich Arctic waters. In summer there is 24-hour daylight.

    Ittoqqortoormiit
    Arrival 07:00 Departure 13:00

This remote Inuit settlement of around 350 inhabitants is one of the loneliest inhabited places on earth, sitting at the entrance to Scoresby Sound, the world's largest fjord system. Brightly painted wooden houses, sled dogs and drift ice define this gateway to the East Greenland wilderness.

  • THU · 19 Aug 2027
    Scoresby Sund
    Arrival 13:01

On Greenland's east coast, Scoresby Sund stretches over several hundred kilometres and ranks as the world's largest fjord system. Icebergs, musk oxen and sheer basalt walls shape this remote landscape.

    Arrival 07:00 Departure 18:30

In northern Iceland on a narrow fjord of the Tröllaskagi peninsula lies Siglufjörður. The former herring port tells of its heyday as a centre of North Atlantic fishing at the Herring Era Museum.

  • WED · 25 Aug 2027
    Isafjordur
    Arrival 07:30 Departure 18:30

In Iceland's remote Westfjords lies Ísafjörður as the region's largest town with just under 3,000 inhabitants on a narrow sand peninsula. The harbour is surrounded by 700-metre table mountains and is the starting point for the wild Hornstrandir nature reserve, where no permanent residents remain but Arctic foxes thrive.

  • THU · 26 Aug 2027
    Dynjandi Waterfalls
    Arrival 06:30 Departure 17:00

Dynjandi lies on the namesake fjord in Iceland's remote Westfjords and tumbles down some 100 metres over seven tiers. The uppermost step is 30 metres wide and the foot 60 metres across, giving the falls their characteristic bridal-veil shape.

  • FRI · 27 Aug 2027
    Stykkisholmur
    Arrival 07:30 Departure 17:00

Stykkishólmur sits on the northern edge of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula, overlooking the island-strewn Breiðafjörður bay. Colourful timber houses and a striking modern church define its skyline.
