The Voyage

Greenland from/to Nuuk

This seven-night round voyage from Nuuk focuses on spectacular Disko Bay and the Inuit villages of Greenland's middle west coast. Aboard Le Lyrial, an ice-strengthened premium vessel of the sistership class for 184 guests, the route first turns into Evighed Fjord and then north into the basalt-crowned Disko Island region and the active Eqip Sermia glacier. The naturalist team accompanies Zodiac landings at glacier fronts and in villages such as Uummannaq and Sisimiut, where sled dogs are still part of the streetscape. Icebergs at sunset belong to the daily on-board programme in this season.

Route highlights

  • Nuuk (Godthaab): Capital of Greenland at the entrance of the branching Nuuk fjord system.
  • Evighed Fjord: The Eternity Fjord west of Maniitsoq with steep mountain walls.
  • Qeqertarsuaq: Main settlement of Disko Island with a basalt-lined coast.
  • Eqip Sermia-Gletscher: An active calving glacier with thundering ice collapses.
  • Akulleq and Uummannaq: Small Inuit settlements set against striking west Greenland mountain silhouettes.
  • Diskobucht: West Greenland's iceberg stage, fed by the Jakobshavn Glacier.
  • Sisimiut: Greenland's second largest town above the Arctic Circle, with a strong fishing tradition.

Nuuk (Godthaab) Nuuk Evighed Fjord Qeqertarsuaq Eqip Sermia Glacier Akulleq Uummannaq Sisimiut
8 of 9 ports located · approx. 1,130 nautical miles
  • Nuuk · Embarkation

Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and, with 19,000 inhabitants, the largest town on the island. The colourful wooden houses by the harbour, the Greenland National Museum with the Qilakitsoq mummies (500 years old, perfectly preserved women and an infant) and the setting between fjords and icebergs make Nuuk unique.

  • Evighedsfjorden
  • Qeqertarsuaq

Qeqertarsuaq is the main settlement on Disko Island off Greenland's west coast, set beneath characteristic basalt cliffs. Hot springs, whales and icebergs shape this Arctic experience.

  • Base Paul-Emile Victor, Eqi Glacier
  • Akulleq

Akulleq is a tiny settlement in Disko Bay on the west coast of Greenland, surrounded by huge icebergs calved from the nearby Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. The community lives from seal hunting and halibut fishing, accessible only by boat or helicopter.

  • Uummannaq

Uummannaq sits on a rocky island off Greenland's west coast and is regarded as one of the most picturesque settlements in the Arctic. Colourful timber houses stand against the backdrop of the heart-shaped mountain and drifting icebergs.

  • Diskobucht

Disko Bay on Greenland's west coast is famed for the icebergs drifting in from the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Humpback whales and the Inuit town of Ilulissat shape this Arctic experience.

  • At sea
  • Sisimiut

Sisimiut is Greenland's second-largest town, known for its traditional kayak-building craft and dog-sledding tradition. The old colonial building, the Lutheran cathedral with its red wooden bell tower and the Arctic fjord panorama make Sisimiut one of the most authentic Greenland stops.

The Ship

Le Lyrial

Le Lyrial entered service in 2015 as the fourth and final ship of the Odyssée class. 264 guests, proven Ponant equipment and the experience of three predecessors. Particularly sought-after for Antarctic expeditions, where the ice-reinforced hull opens passages available to few ships.

In the Arctic, Le Lyrial sails through the fjords of Svalbard and along the Greenlandic coast - expeditions where glaciers, whales and northern lights are part of the programme.
