Livorno · Embarkation
Livorno is the port for Florence and Pisa. Excursions lead to Florence (80 km) with the Uffizi, the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio - capital of the Renaissance; or to Pisa with the famous Leaning Tower on the Field of Miracles (Campo dei Miracoli).
-
Porto Venere
Portovenere lies at the western end of the Gulf of Poets in Liguria and shares UNESCO World Heritage status with the Cinque Terre. Tall, narrow houses, the church of San Pietro on a rocky headland and Byron's Grotto define the village.
-
Monaco
Between Nice and the Italian border lies the city-state of Monaco on the French Mediterranean coast on the Ligurian Sea. The world's second-smallest country is famed for the Prince's Palace in Monaco-Ville, Charles Garnier's lavish Monte Carlo casino and the world-famous Formula 1 street circuit winding through its narrow lanes.
-
Cassis
Cassis lies on the French Mediterranean coast east of Marseille, framed by France's highest sea cliff, Cap Canaille. On its doorstep begin the Calanques, fjord-like limestone inlets of turquoise water, and on its slopes ripens the dry white wine of Provence's oldest AOC vineyard.
-
Marseille
Marseille is France's oldest port (founded by the Phocaeans in 600 BC) and was European Capital of Culture in 2013. The Vieux Port with its fish stalls, MuCEM and the towering Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde above the city give Marseille its Mediterranean character.
-
Port-Vendres
At the eastern foothills of the Pyrenees in France's Roussillon region just before the Spanish border, this perfectly circular natural bay serves as the only deep-water harbour on the southern French mainland. The nearby artists' village of Collioure and the rugged Côte Vermeille shape its surroundings.
-
Menorca
Menorca is the quietest and least discovered of the three large Balearics. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with the Camí de Cavalls (185 km coastal walking trail), the prehistoric Talayotic towers and the historic capital Ciutadella.
-
Valencia
Valencia is home to the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias - an architectural landmark by Calatrava in the city's former riverbed. The Old Town with the Silk Exchange (UNESCO World Heritage) and the Gothic cathedral, said to house the Holy Grail, deserves a leisurely exploration.
-
Cartagena
Cartagena is a port city on the Spanish Mediterranean coast in the Murcia region and home to one of the country's principal naval bases. Carthaginians, Romans and Moors all shaped the bay, and the Roman theatre from the time of Augustus, rediscovered in the city centre, is among the most impressive in Spain.

Le Boréal
Le Boréal was the first ship of the Odyssée class and marked Ponant's move into expedition cruising. 264 guests, ice-reinforced hull, two restaurants - a ship built equally for the passage to the North Cape and the islands of the South Seas.
In the Mediterranean, Le Boréal shows the culinary side of the Ponant philosophy: French-inspired cuisine, open wine, regional specialities.
