Route Highlights

  • Portofino: Picturesque fishing village on the Italian Riviera, a nature reserve since 1935
  • L’Île-Rousse: Corsican harbour founded by Pasquale Paoli in 1758, with pink granite rocks
  • Ajaccio (Corsica): Napoleon’s birthplace with the Maison Bonaparte and Notre-Dame de l’Assomption cathedral
  • Calvi (Corsica): Genoese citadel from the 13th century above a deep crescent-shaped bay
  • Sanary-sur-Mer: Small Provençal fishing village with colourful pointu boats in the harbour
  • Saint-Tropez: Former fishing village made famous worldwide by Brigitte Bardot, a Côte d’Azur harbour

Embarkation

Disembarkation

Nice (Villefranche)

How the route could go:

Nice (Villefranche) Portofino L'Île-Rousse Ajaccio (Corsica) Calvi (Corsica) Sanary-sur-Mer Saint-Tropez
7 ports · route · approx. 480 nautical miles
  • Nice (Villefranche) · Embarkation

Nice offers the Cours Saleya with one of the finest flower markets in France and the Promenade des Anglais, where the Belle Époque feel is still tangible. Excursions reach Monaco in minutes, or the hilltop villages of the Côte d'Azur such as Eze and Gourdon.

  • Portofino

The most elegant fishing village on the Riviera Ligure and a favourite anchorage for the international yachting world: pastel houses around the harbour basin, small churches on the hill, and walking trails through the Monte Portofino nature park.

  • L'Île-Rousse (Corsica)

Lively port town on the north-west coast of Corsica, founded by the Genoese in the Balagne wine region. The pink rocky islet of Île de la Pietra, which gives the town its name, lies just offshore crowned by an old Genoese tower.

  • Ajaccio (Corsica)

Ajaccio spreads around a wide bay on the west coast of Corsica and is regarded as the sunniest capital in France. Napoleon Bonaparte was born here in 1769; his birthplace and the cathedral where he was baptised shape the old town.

  • Calvi (Corsica)

Calvi on Corsica's north-west coast has been home to the French Foreign Legion since 1962. The 13th-century Genoese citadel towers over a perfect crescent of pine-fringed beach, and local legend even claims the town as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

  • Sanary-sur-Mer

West of Toulon on the French Mediterranean coast, the fishing port of Sanary-sur-Mer huddles round pastel-painted facades. Colourful pointu boats and a lively market give shape to this Provençal harbour life.

  • Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez shifts depending on the season: a picturesque fishing harbour with the old citadel and the Place des Lices as an authentic Provence town on the one hand - a luxury yacht anchorage with international society on the other. The Musée de l'Annonciade houses important post-impressionist works.
