The Voyage

Panama City to Oranjestad

Eleven nights under white sails between Panama and the Dutch ABC islands, with the Panama Canal transit as the central highlight. From Panama City the Star Clipper links the Pacific coast with the Colombian Caribbean and the ABC islands. An unusual route combining ocean transit with the southern Caribbean far from the crowds.

Highlights of the route

  • Panama Canal transit, one of the most significant shipping routes in the world, with the Miraflores and Gatún locks
  • San Blas Islands, autonomous Kuna indigenous region with more than 300 uninhabited coral islands
  • Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with colonial fortress and a vivid colonial old town
  • Santa Marta, the oldest city in Colombia, with views of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
  • Bonaire, a Dutch Caribbean nature reserve and one of the world’s best diving grounds with coral reefs just off the coast
  • Willemstad on Curaçao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with brightly painted merchant houses
  • Oranjestad on Aruba, the Dutch Caribbean town with the Arikok National Park

Life on board

The Star Clipper is a classic fully rigged ship with four masts and 16 sails, 170 guests, sporty and unhurried in atmosphere, no dress code, open seating and two pools. Guests are welcome to climb the rigging with the crew or take the helm.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

How the route could go:

Panama City Panama Canal San Blas Islands Cartagena (CO) Santa Marta Bonaire Willemstad Oranjestad
8 ports · route · approx. 820 nautical miles
  • Panama City · Embarkation

Panama City sits at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal and combines a modern skyline with the colonial old town of Casco Viejo. The city is a hub for canal transits and excursions into the rainforest.

  • Panama Canal
  • San Blas Islands

Off Panama's Caribbean coast, more than 360 tiny islands and reefs make up the San Blas archipelago. The islands are autonomously governed by the indigenous Guna people, known for their intricate mola textile art.

  • Cartagena (CO)

Cartagena de Indias on Colombia's Caribbean coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The walled colonial old town with pastel-coloured palaces, the San Felipe fortress and the bougainvillea-filled balconies make Cartagena one of the most atmospheric colonial cities in Latin America.

  • Santa Marta

Santa Marta sits on Colombia's Caribbean coast and is one of the oldest cities in South America. The town with its colonial old centre lies at the foot of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

  • Bonaire

Bonaire is the diving paradise of the ABC Islands. The entire coast is a marine national park, flamingo colonies live in the salt pans, and the central Washington-Slagbaai National Park reveals a stark volcanic landscape with cacti and iguanas.

  • Willemstad (Curaçao)

Willemstad on Curaçao is one of the most vibrant UNESCO World Heritage cityscapes in the Caribbean: the colourful Dutch colonial buildings of the Handelskade are reflected in the harbour - in the 17th century Curaçao was the trading centre of the Dutch Caribbean. Curaçao is also known for the best coral diving in the Lesser Antilles.

  • Oranjestad (Aruba) · Disembarkation

Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba, the driest Caribbean island, with more than 200 days of sunshine a year. Arikok National Park with its cactus landscape and cave paintings, Palm Beach with its fine silver sand and the Alto Vista national monument are Aruba's main attractions.
