The Voyage

Sailing cruise from/to Venice

Seven nights under white sails through the eastern Adriatic with a focus on Montenegro and central Dalmatia. From Venice the Royal Clipper makes for the spectacular Bay of Kotor, then on across Apulia’s coast and the Croatian islands of Korčula and Cres up to Istria. A voyage that combines fjord-like landscapes, mediaeval old towns and unspoilt islands.

Highlights of the route

  • Kotor, framed by 1,700-metre mountains in its namesake bay, with the Venetian fortress of Sveti Ivan above the UNESCO old town. One of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Mediterranean
  • Monopoli in Apulia, a port town with a well-preserved tuff-stone old town in Italy’s oldest olive-growing region
  • Korčula, a small walled island town said to be Marco Polo’s birthplace, with Renaissance architecture
  • Trogir, an entire island town designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral of St Lawrence and Venetian palazzi
  • Cres, one of the wildest and least developed islands of the Kvarner Bay, a nesting site for the rare griffon vulture

Life on board

The Royal Clipper, with five masts and 42 sails, is one of the largest fully rigged sailing ships in the world. Life aboard is sporty and unhurried: no dress code, open seating in the two-storey dining room, three pools including a glass-floor pool above the Captain Nemo Lounge. Guests are welcome to climb the rigging with the crew, take the helm beside the captain or enjoy the bowsprit net suspended above the water.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

Venice

How the route could go:

Venice Kotor Monopoli Korcula Trogir Cres
6 ports · route · approx. 820 nautical miles
  • Venice · Embarkation

Venice spreads across some 120 islands in the lagoon on the northern Adriatic in Italy's Veneto region. St Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Grand Canal palazzos make this UNESCO World Heritage city unique.

  • Kotor

At the end of one of the longest fjords in the Adriatic lies Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The fully preserved Venetian city walls and the panoramic view from the Fortress of San Giovanni over the Bay of Kotor are among the most impressive experiences in the Mediterranean.

  • Monopoli

Monopoli is a lively port town in Apulia, on the Adriatic coast south of Bari. A whitewashed old town, a baroque cathedral and the old harbour full of fishing boats define the scene.

  • Korcula

Korčula is considered the birthplace of Marco Polo and is one of the most beautiful medieval towns on the Adriatic: Venetian palazzi, Gothic churches and towers on a small peninsula - Dubrovnik in miniature.

  • Trogir

Trogir on the Dalmatian coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complexes in Central Europe. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence with the famous west portal by Master Radovan is the highlight.

  • Cres

Cres is an elongated island in Croatia's Kvarner Bay and, after Krk, the country's second-largest island. It is home to one of the last Adriatic populations of the griffon vulture, whose breeding cliffs on the east coast are looked after from the Beli eco-centre.
