From Classic Cruiser to Expedition Vessel
Silver Cloud was one of Silversea’s earliest ships when she launched in 1994, and over nearly three decades she accumulated a loyal following drawn to her intimate scale and unhurried atmosphere. Her transformation into the Silver Cloud Expedition redefined her purpose: adapted for polar waters, she now operates in the Arctic and Antarctic alongside Silversea’s newer expedition fleet, bringing all-suite comfort to destinations that once required accepting considerably more basic conditions.
The result is a ship with 254 guests – generous by expedition standards – carrying the full Silversea suite of butler service, multiple dining venues, and spacious accommodation into some of the most remote waters on earth.
Polar Capability
Silver Cloud Expedition carries an ice-strengthened hull and a fleet of Zodiacs for landings at sites without fixed infrastructure – beaches, ice shelves, remote headlands. The on-board expedition team includes naturalists, historians, and specialists whose briefings and field presence give each excursion a depth that a conventional shore-excursion programme cannot match. Guests are equipped from the Mud Room with the clothing and gear appropriate to each landing.
Accommodation and Dining
All accommodation is in suites, each with butler service. The configuration includes veranda suites with private balconies as well as the ship’s top-category Owner’s Suite and Silver Suites. Dining options include The Restaurant for main meals and the poolside Grill for informal lunches; La Dame and La Terrazza provide fine-dining evenings for those who prefer a more structured setting.
Silversea’s all-inclusive model covers drinks, gratuities, excursions on expedition voyages, and the core spa and fitness facilities, removing the series of additional charges that accumulate on most comparable vessels.
Scale and Character
With 254 guests and a crew of 212, Silver Cloud Expedition maintains proportions that keep the atmosphere personal. She is larger than the smallest expedition ships on the market but small enough that the dining room never feels impersonal, and the expedition team can run simultaneous Zodiac programmes without the logistical pressure that comes with higher passenger numbers.
Her itineraries pair polar seasons: Arctic Norway, Svalbard, and Greenland in the northern summer; the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands from November through March.
