The Voyage

Salerno, Amalfi, (Positano), Capri, back to Salerno

From Salerno, the Chronos sails along the Amalfi Coast, one of Italy’s most spectacular stretches of shore. Mountains plunging into the sea, pastel-coloured villages and the fashionable island of Capri define this week under sail in southern Italy.

Highlights

  • Amalfi: the coast’s namesake town with its Cathedral of Saint Andrew and terraced lemon gardens.
  • Positano: the postcard village clinging to the hillside, with narrow lanes, boutiques and a pebble beach.
  • Capri: the Faraglioni rocks, the Blue Grotto and the Gardens of Augustus above the sea.
  • Amalfi Coast anchorages: sheltered swimming stops in crystal-clear water, reachable only from the sea.
Yacht voyage

The finest way to sail: a new anchorage every day, plenty of time for watersports and going ashore, nights at anchor in a quiet bay and a morning swim before moving on.

Early booking advantage: Voyages in 2027 fill quickly - premium cabins are often reserved 18-24 months in advance. An early booking enquiry is non-binding and secures your preferred cabin category.

How the route could go:

  • Salerno · Embarkation

On the Tyrrhenian Sea south of Naples, Salerno is the gateway to the Amalfi Coast with Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. The medieval Schola Medica Salernitana was Europe's first medical school, and the Arechi Castle offers panoramic views over the gulf.

  • Amalfi

Amalfi lies at the foot of a sheer coastline regarded as one of the most beautiful in Europe. Excursions lead to the "Path of the Gods" (Sentiero degli Dei) with panoramic views over the gulf and coast, and to nearby Ravello with the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone.

  • (Positano)

Positano cascades in pastel-coloured terraces down the slopes of the Amalfi Coast south of Naples, with bougainvillea and lemon groves tumbling to the sea. Since the 1950s, the village has been a magnet for film stars and writers.

  • Capri

Capri offers the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) - a sea cave glowing with luminous cobalt-blue reflections - as its best-known attraction. Up in Anacapri, the chairlift to Monte Solaro rewards visitors with sweeping views over Naples, Vesuvius and the Campanian coast.
