Silversea
All-Suite Cruising Across Classic and Expedition Fleets
Silversea is an Italian-founded, Monaco-based cruise company operating thirteen ships across two distinct categories: classic premium ocean vessels and purpose-adapted expedition ships. The company joined the Royal Caribbean Group in 2018 but maintains a wholly separate identity, product, and guest profile. The unifying principle across the fleet is all-suite accommodation with butler service as standard – not as an upgrade, but as the entry-level offering on every ship.
We recommend Silversea to guests for whom consistency of service and the removal of incremental charges matter as much as the itinerary itself. The all-inclusive model – covering drinks, gratuities, and Wi-Fi across the fleet, with excursions added for expedition voyages – produces a voyage cost that is predictable from the outset.
Classic Fleet
Eight classic ships range from the intimate Shadow class (Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, 392 guests each) through the 632-636 guest Muse and Spirit class, to the newest Nova-class vessels (Silver Nova, Silver Ray, 728 guests each). The design progression across these ships reflects a continuous refinement of the all-suite formula rather than a reinvention of it: the Nova class introduces a horizontal design architecture with 270-degree views from upper forward suites, which is the most significant structural departure from the earlier generations.
The eight-venue dining configuration – introduced with Silver Muse in 2017 and carried forward across the newer fleet – includes the S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) programme: a destination-driven food initiative that changes the kitchen menu in response to where the ship is sailing, runs cookery classes through the S.A.L.T. Lab, and organises food-focused shore excursions. It is the most coherent destination-cuisine concept currently operating at scale in premium cruising.
Expedition Fleet
Five expedition ships cover the full polar range. Silver Cloud Expedition and Silver Wind Expedition are converted classic vessels with ice-strengthened hulls; Silver Endeavour is purpose-built for polar operations to PC6 ice-class standard. Silver Origin is designed exclusively for the Galapagos Islands, operating year-round with Ecuadorian national guides and eight Zodiacs. All expedition voyages include excursions and the full butler-service suite standard.
On-Board Experience
Butler service is the defining constant across every Silversea ship. Guests in all categories are assigned a personal butler who handles cabin setup, food and drink orders, reservations, and day-to-day coordination. Combined with the all-inclusive model, this produces a pace of travel that is genuinely unhurried – there are no decisions about what to order or which restaurant to pay for, which on a two-week voyage significantly changes the texture of daily life on board.
The Otium spa brand operates across the fleet; the OTIVM wellness concept is the most developed iteration. Multiple lounges, libraries, and observation decks are present on all ships.
Destinations
Silversea operates on global routes: Mediterranean (the largest single share of the programme), the Caribbean, Alaska, Northern Europe, South America, Asia, and both poles. The geographic breadth is matched by itinerary depth – many programmes feature overnights in port or calls at smaller anchorages that larger ships cannot access.
Why We Recommend Silversea
The combination of genuine butler service, all-inclusive clarity, and a fleet that covers every type of destination from expedition polar to classic Mediterranean makes Silversea one of the most versatile premium operators available. Guests who want to plan a voyage once and travel without ongoing financial decisions on board will find the model suits them very directly.
