A sailing voyage from Kiel-Holtenau
Embarkation: 21 September 2026, 7:00 pm in Kiel-Holtenau
Disembarkation: 25 September 2026, 9:00 am in Kiel-Holtenau
A four-night taster voyage aboard the roughly 100-year-old windjammer Eye of the Wind: from Kiel-Holtenau along the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic coast into the Danish South Seas and back to Kiel. A balanced mix of sailing time at sea and time ashore, well suited to beginners, together with excellent onboard cuisine and genuine traditional seamanship you are welcome to join in.
At Holtenau on the western shore of Kiel Fjord, the quayside at the Tiessenkai is the maritime focal point. Here you can watch the lively comings and goings before the locks of the Kiel Canal. From small sailing yachts to ocean giants, vessels of every kind and size pass by during the day on the world’s busiest artificial waterway. On a stroll to the little Holtenau lighthouse you will catch a whiff of nostalgic harbour atmosphere, with old cargo sailing ships and schooners often moored at the quay. Use your time here to explore Kiel Fjord, spend a day at Falckenstein lido or take a trip into the world of sailing at the Olympic harbour of Schilksee or the marina at Strande.
Via Marstal on Ærø, Denmark’s old sailing-ship centre, and a detour to the Schlei fjord near Maasholm, the route returns to Kiel-Holtenau. The course and ports of call are indicative; the ship’s command decides on intermediate stops according to wind and weather.
Included: 4 nights aboard in a comfortable double cabin, full board (all meals, water, coffee, tea), shower and WC as well as air conditioning in every cabin, harbour dues.
Not included: travel to and from the ship, shore excursions, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.

Kiel-Holtenau
How the route could go:
-
Kiel-Holtenau · Embarkation
District on the north shore of the Kiel Fjord and eastern terminus of the Kiel Canal, where two pairs of locks lead into open water. The historic lighthouse and the lock viewing platform are popular vantage points.
-
Marstal (Ærø)
On the Danish South Funen island of Ærø in the Baltic, Marstal preserves a famed seafaring tradition and one of Denmark's largest surviving wooden-ship harbours. The Marstal Maritime Museum tells of the heyday of sailing in the 19th century, when the small island maintained over 300 deep-sea cargo sailing vessels.
-
Maasholm
Small port at the mouth of the Schlei inlet on the Baltic in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The fishing village of white-and-blue timber houses on a narrow spit is a favourite call for sailors on the German-Danish border.
