The Voyage

Saint Pierre Island to Montreal

This eleven-night voyage aboard Le Lyrial follows the St Lawrence River from the Atlantic into the heart of Québec. From Saint Pierre you sail to the Magdalen Islands, on to the west coast of Newfoundland and the Lower North Shore, then through the estuary with its whales and finally upriver to Montréal. The marina platform and Zodiac fleet open up the remote landings, while premium all-inclusive and French refinement shape life on board.

Route highlights

  • Saint Pierre Island: French overseas territory off Newfoundland, a slice of Brittany in the North Atlantic.
  • Cap-aux-Meules: Main settlement of the Magdalen Islands with sand dunes and red cliffs.
  • Gros Morne National Park: UNESCO World Heritage site on western Newfoundland, with tablelands and fjords.
  • Harrington Harbour: Wooden-house village on the granite of Québec's Lower North Shore.
  • Providencia: Small landing on the Lower North Shore, shaped by Innu culture.
  • La Romaine: Innu community on the Lower North Shore, accessible only by ship or air.
  • Havre-Saint-Pierre: Gateway to the Mingan Archipelago with its limestone monoliths.
  • Tadoussac: Classic whale-watching village at the meeting of the Saguenay and St Lawrence.
  • Québec: Capital of the province, whose fortified old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Montréal: Francophone metropolis on an island between the St Lawrence and the Rivière des Prairies.

  • Insel Saint Pierre, Saint-Pierre und Miquelon · Embarkation
  • Insel Miquelon, Saint-Pierre und Miquelon
  • Cap-aux-Meules, Magdalenen-Inseln

Cap-aux-Meules is the principal town and only deep-water port of the Magdalen Islands in the Canadian Gulf of Saint Lawrence, an archipelago belonging to the province of Quebec. The islands are famed for their red sandstone cliffs, endless dune beaches and a distinctive Acadian island culture.

  • Woody Point, Gros-Morne-Nationalpark
  • Providence Island
  • Harrington Harbour

On Quebec's Côte-Nord on the northern Gulf of Saint Lawrence lies the secluded fishing village of Harrington Harbour. Wooden boardwalks rather than streets connect the colourful houses on this rocky island, where the famous 2003 film La Grande Séduction was shot, portraying the lives of its English-speaking Newfoundland descendants.

  • Havre-Saint-Pierre

On the north shore of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in the Canadian province of Quebec lies Havre-Saint-Pierre as an Acadian port community. The town serves as the gateway to Mingan Archipelago National Park with its unique limestone monoliths, which rise like petrified guardians from the water, shaped by wind and waves over millennia.

  • Tadoussac

Tadoussac sits in Canada's Québec where the deep Saguenay Fjord meets the Saint Lawrence River. It is regarded as one of the world's finest spots for watching belugas and blue whales.

  • Kreuzen auf dem Saguenay River
  • Saguenay

In the Canadian province of Quebec, Saguenay sits on the fjord of the same name, which empties into the St. Lawrence River. Steep wooded cliffs and beluga whales make the region a popular nature destination.

  • Québec

High above the St. Lawrence River in the Canadian province of the same name, this historic capital reigns as the only city in North America with intact fortified walls. The old town with its iconic Château Frontenac, cobbled lanes and French colonial flair is a UNESCO World Heritage site and regarded as the most European city on the continent.

  • Trois-Rivières

Trois-Rivières sits on the Saint Lawrence River in the Canadian province of Québec, roughly halfway between Montréal and Québec City. It ranks among the oldest French-heritage settlements in North America.

The Ship

Le Lyrial

Le Lyrial entered service in 2015 as the fourth and final ship of the Odyssée class. 264 guests, proven Ponant equipment and the experience of three predecessors. Particularly sought-after for Antarctic expeditions, where the ice-reinforced hull opens passages available to few ships.

Along the east coast of North America, Le Lyrial sails through the Gulf of St. Lawrence and along the coast of Newfoundland - areas where whales, icebergs and fishing villages meet.
