The Voyage

Lautoka to Papeete

This fourteen-night passage links Fiji with French Polynesia, travelling from Lautoka via Tonga and the Cook Islands to Tahiti. Aboard Le Jacques Cartier, an Explorer-class vessel for just 184 guests, you experience the vastness of the South Pacific with all the comfort of a premium all-inclusive concept. Sixteen Zodiacs open up remote lagoons and small atolls, and the Blue Eye underwater lounge gives a view into the coral world directly below the hull. Between the island groups you cross the International Date Line and gain a calendar day.

Route highlights

  • Lautoka: Sugar and port city in western Fiji, gateway to the Yasawa Islands and starting point for the Pacific crossing.
  • Suva: Fiji's capital with colonial heritage, lively market halls and a blend of Melanesian and Polynesian culture.
  • Beqa: Small island south of Viti Levu, known for its lagoon and the tradition of firewalking.
  • Savusavu: Sheltered bay on the southern coast of Vanua Levu, surrounded by rainforest and hot springs.
  • Vavaʻu: Northern island group of Tonga with fjord-like waterways and crystal-clear anchorages.
  • Rarotonga: Main island of the Cook Islands, volcanic in character, with a fringing reef and Maori culture.
  • Bora Bora: The volcanic cone of Mount Otemanu rising over a turquoise lagoon, an icon of the South Seas.
  • Moorea: Tahiti's sister island with Cooks Bay and the jagged silhouette of its volcanic peaks.
  • Papeete: Capital of Tahiti, lively destination of the voyage with its covered market and lagoon panorama.

Lautoka, the "Sugar City" on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu, is the gateway to the Mamanuca and Yasawa island groups. The nearby Sabeto mud pools with hot springs and the Garden of the Sleeping Giant (orchid collection) are classic Fiji highlights.

  • Suva, Insel Viti Levu

Suva on the south-east coast of Fiji's main island of Viti Levu is the largest metropolis in the South Pacific. Colonial buildings, lively markets and the Fiji Museum define this multicultural capital.

  • Vava'u

Vavaʻu forms the northern island group of the Polynesian Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific. Its sheltered bays are one of the few places worldwide where swimming with humpback whales is permitted.

  • Bora Bora, Gesellschaftsinseln

An extinct volcanic cone in the middle of a turquoise lagoon, ringed by a white coral reef - Bora-Bora is globally regarded as the epitome of paradise. The unique underwater world and the stillness of the sheltered lagoon make every visit unforgettable.

  • Motu Mahana, Taha'a, Gesellschaftsinseln
  • Moorea

Just 17 kilometres off Tahiti lies Moorea - jagged volcanic peaks, turquoise lagoons and white coral reefs sit closer together here than anywhere else in the South Seas. Cook's Bay (Baie de Cook) and Opunohu Bay are among the finest natural settings in Polynesia.
