The Voyage

Copenhagen → London

This 10-night voyage aboard Le Champlain links the geopolitical hubs from the Baltic to the North Sea between Copenhagen and London. The Explorer-class ship for 184 guests offers the Blue Eye underwater lounge, 16 Zodiacs and a marina, with premium all-inclusive Ponant service. The route crosses the Kiel Canal as the shortest connection between the two seas. Hanseatic towns, diplomatic capitals and classic harbours shape the stages all the way to the Thames estuary.

Route highlights

  • Copenhagen: Danish capital with Nyhavn and royal palaces as the starting point.
  • Warnemünde and Wismar: Mecklenburg seaside resort and UNESCO-listed Hanseatic town with Brick Gothic.
  • Kiel Canal: Daytime transit of the waterway connecting the Baltic and the North Sea.
  • Harlingen and Amsterdam: A Frisian harbour town and the Dutch capital with canal belt and Golden Age heritage.
  • The Hague: Seat of international organisations with the Mauritshuis and the Peace Palace.
  • Antwerp: Belgian port city with Rubens heritage and a diamond quarter.
  • Oostende, Dunkirk and London: A Belgian seaside resort, a French port with memorial sites and the British capital as the journey's destination.

London

Warnemünde Wismar Kiel Canal Harlingen Amsterdam Antwerp Ostend London
8 of 11 ports located · approx. 560 nautical miles
  • Kopenhagen · Embarkation

Nyhavn - the colourful harbour row - Christiansborg Palace, and the kitchen that brought New Nordic Cuisine to the world: Copenhagen is one of the most liveable cities anywhere. Kronborg, the model for Shakespeare's Hamlet residence, lies one hour away.

  • At sea
  • Warnemünde (Rostock)

Warnemünde is the port for Rostock and lies on the Baltic with a long white sand beach right behind the lighthouse. Excursions lead to Rostock and the Hanseatic city or inland to the castle and old town of Schwerin (UNESCO World Heritage).

  • Wismar

Wismar was once one of the most powerful Hanseatic cities and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The brick Gothic of the Nikolaikirche, the market square with the Wasserkunst pavilion and the Swedish buildings (Wismar was Swedish for 200 years) define the old town.

  • At sea
  • Harlingen

On the Wadden Sea coast of the Dutch province of Friesland lies the historic port town of Harlingen with its ornately decorated Golden Age gable houses. Ferries depart from the harbour to the West Frisian islands of Vlieland and Terschelling, and the annual fish auction recalls its maritime past as a whaling stronghold.

  • Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, built on 90 islands and threaded with 165 canals from the 17th-century Golden Age that form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Rijksmuseum with Rembrandt's Night Watch, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House define the city's cultural fabric.

  • Scheveningen (Den Haag)

The Hague lies on the Dutch North Sea coast and is the seat of government, parliament and the royal family, even though Amsterdam is the official capital. The Peace Palace of 1913 houses the International Court of Justice, making the city a world judicial hub, while the seaside resort of Scheveningen with its long pier sits just on its doorstep.

  • Antwerpen

Antwerp is Belgium's largest port city and the second-largest seaport in Europe, situated on the Scheldt some 80 kilometres from the North Sea. In the 16th century it was the economic capital of Europe and today remains the world centre of the diamond trade.

  • Ostende
  • Dünkirchen

Dunkirk lies on the French North Sea coast close to the Belgian border and is France's third-largest port. The beach and long mole pier became world-famous in 1940 through Operation Dynamo, during which 338,000 Allied soldiers were evacuated to England under German fire.
