Tyrrhenian Sea from/to Rome / Civitavecchia
Five nights under white sails along Italy’s most dramatic coastline. From Rome the Star Clipper sails for the Amalfi Coast and the small volcanic island of Ponza, a compact route taking in mediaeval maritime republics, views of Vesuvius and volcanic bays free of mass tourism.
Highlights of the route
- Amalfi, mediaeval maritime republic with the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea and its Moorish-influenced facade, the entire coast a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Sorrento, perched on a tufa cliff above the Bay of Naples, with views of Vesuvius. Gateway to Pompeii and the Blue Grotto on Capri
- Ponza, a volcanic island of the Pontine archipelago with clear water, small bays and little international tourism
Life on board
The Star Clipper is a classic fully rigged ship with four masts and 16 sails, 170 guests, sporty and unhurried in atmosphere, no dress code, open seating and two pools.

How the route could go:
-
Rome / Civitavecchia · Embarkation
-
Amalfi
Amalfi lies at the foot of a sheer coastline regarded as one of the most beautiful in Europe. Excursions lead to the "Path of the Gods" (Sentiero degli Dei) with panoramic views over the gulf and coast, and to nearby Ravello with the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone.
-
Sorrento
Sorrento looks out from a tufa cliff over the Bay of Naples, facing Vesuvius. Limoncello, lemon groves and the narrow pedestrian streets of the Centro Storico make it the most charming base for excursions to Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast.
-
Ponza
Ponza is the largest of the Pontine Islands off the coast of Lazio. Turquoise grottoes, steep pumice cliffs and a small lively harbour village make it a hidden favourite of the Tyrrhenian yachting world.
-
