Each year starts in late November, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. More than a hundred boats from around the world gather at this time in the Canaries, to cross in conjunction with other yachts of the Atlantic. Destination in the Caribbean is Rodney Bay in St.Lucia, one of the most beautiful islands in the Lesser Antilles.
For the 2,700 nautical miles, the yachts will need, depending on boat size and strength of the northeast trade winds between about 2-3 weeks.
An ARC can monohulls from 27 feet and cruising catamarans 27-60 feet in length with a minimum crew of two persons on board attend. Cruising in the groups that is allowed even engines, the results are calculated using a set of World Cruising handicap. In addition, there is a race group that starts under the IRC handicap and the sponsorship is allowed.
