This fourteen-night Silver Wind Expedition voyage again runs from Nuuk on the Greenlandic west coast across the Davis Strait to Iqaluit on Baffin Island. The route includes Evighed Fjord, Itivdleq, the Eqip Sermia glacier and Ilulissat with its UNESCO icefjord. In Canada it visits Qikiqtarjuaq, Auyuittuq National Park and Arctic islands such as Lady Franklin Island, Monumental Island and Akpatok Island. The late-summer season still offers good Zodiac conditions.

Nuuk (Godthab)

Nuuk, the capital of Greenland on the south-western coast of the island, sits nestled between fjords and icebergs on the edge of the Labrador Sea.

Evighedsfjord

The Evighedsfjord (Fjord of Eternity) in western Greenland is a calm fjord reaching deep into the mainland, with one of the most impressive glacier backdrops in Greenland. Barely visited, it offers silent passages through a landscape of gneiss cliffs, waterfalls and tundra.

Eqip Sermia Glacier

Eqip-Sermia-Gletscher - kalbende Eiswand

The Eqip Sermia Glacier in western Greenland is one of the most actively calving glaciers in the world. From on board or by Zodiac you watch in real time as tonnes of ice break from the glacier front and crash into the water, shaking the surface.

Ilulissat

Humpback whales in the beautiful sunset landscape

Ilulissat in West Greenland lies next to the UNESCO World Heritage Ilulissat Icefjord - one of the world's most productive glaciers. Sermeq Kujalleq calves enormous icebergs daily that fill the fjord before drifting into Baffin Bay. Dog-sled rides and helicopter glacier tours are the excursion highlights.

Sisimiut

Grönland – Treibende Eisberge

Sisimiut is Greenland's second-largest town, known for its traditional kayak-building craft and dog-sledding tradition. The old colonial building, the Lutheran cathedral with its red wooden bell tower and the Arctic fjord panorama make Sisimiut one of the most authentic Greenland stops.

This Inuit settlement on the east coast of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic is the gateway to Auyuittuq National Park and is known as one of the world's best places to observe bowhead whales.

Cape Mercy

Cape Mercy lies on the east coast of Baffin Island at the entrance to Cumberland Sound. The bare Arctic headland offers sweeping views over ice-marked waters.

Pangnirtung

Grönland – Herbstliche Tundra im Bergtal

Pangnirtung, set on a fjord of Baffin Island in Nunavut, is the gateway to Auyuittuq National Park and its striking Pangnirtung Pass. The community is also known for its Inuit prints and tapestries.

Lady Franklin Island

Uninhabited rocky islet in the Cumberland Sound off the east coast of Baffin Island in Canada's Nunavut. Steep cliffs hold large colonies of thick-billed murres and black-legged kittiwakes, while polar bears hunt in the surrounding waters.

Monumental Island

Off the south-eastern coast of Baffin Island in Canada's Nunavut sits Monumental Island, a small uninhabited rocky outcrop in the Davis Strait of the eastern Arctic. The distinctive granite cliffs are a famous walrus haul-out, with occasional sightings of polar bears that drift ashore from one ice floe to the next.

Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset (Kinngait) on the south-western coast of Baffin Island is regarded as the capital of Inuit art. Its celebrated print studio has produced graphics shown around the world for decades.

Lower Savage Islands

Small island group in Hudson Strait off the south-east coast of Baffin Island in Canada's Nunavut. Bare, steep cliffs host colonies of thick-billed murres, while polar bears and bowhead whales hunt in the icy currents.

Leg 13 · Sun, 13.09. · Disembarkation

Iqaluit

On Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island in Canada's territory of Nunavut lies its capital Iqaluit with around 8,000 inhabitants. Canada's northernmost capital combines traditional Inuit culture with the modern architecture of the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum and the striking tent-shaped St. Jude's Anglican Cathedral.
