Seven nights aboard Silver Whisper carry you in the closing weeks of the season from Anchorage to Vancouver, through the glaciers and fjords of the northwest coast. Early September shows Alaska in autumn-tinted forests, with crisp air and the final salmon runs. The route links Hubbard Glacier with the Inside Passage ports and their mix of Tlingit culture, Russian heritage and Gold Rush stories.

Juneau is the only US state capital that cannot be reached by road - only by ship or aircraft. The Mendenhall Glacier reaching to the edge of town and whale watching directly off the harbour make Juneau one of the most impressive Alaska stops.
In south-east Alaska on North America's deepest fjord, the Lynn Canal, Haines nestles against the Chilkat Range mountains. The town at the entrance to the Chilkoot Valley hosts thousands of bald eagles along the Chilkat River each autumn and serves as the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park and historic Fort Seward.
Sitka was the capital of Russian America until the US purchase in 1867. The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Michael, the Tlingit heritage of the indigenous people and the surrounding rainforest of the Tongass National Forest make Sitka the most culturally layered town in Alaska.
On Annette Island in south-east Alaska, the Tsimshian people live in the state's only Indian reservation. The community of Metlakatla was relocated here in 1887 by missionary William Duncan from what is now British Columbia; longhouses, totem poles and traditional wood carving still shape island life today.
Vancouver is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. Stanley Park, Granville Island Market, Gastown with its steam clock and the views of the snow-capped Coast Mountains make Vancouver the most spectacular Pacific port in North America.
