On the rainy east side of the Hawaiian island of Big Island lies Hilo as its largest city at the foot of the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes. The harbour is the gateway to Volcanoes National Park with the active Kīlauea lava fields and home to the famous Merrie Monarch Hula Festival each April.
Main supply port of the Hawaiian island of Maui on its northern shore. Routes from the harbour lead to the sacred Haleakala volcanic crater and along the famed Hana coastal road past waterfalls and bamboo forests.
Lively coastal town on the dry western side of Big Island in the Hawaiian archipelago. The sheltered bay anchors outrigger canoes, while coffee plantations on the slopes of Hualalai produce the world-famous Kona beans.
Honolulu on Oahu is the gateway to Hawaii. The attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 is experienced first-hand at the USS Arizona Memorial. Excursions head to the Diamond Head crater, the Polynesian Cultural Center or along the North Shore with its legendary surf beaches Sunset Beach and Banzai Pipeline.
