Lissabon

Lissabon - Turm von Belém im Abendlicht

Built on seven hills, Lisbon blends a southern European sense of life with a great history of discovery. From the Tower of Belém, Vasco da Gama and other navigators set out into the unknown - yellow trams and the melancholic Fado still tell the tale today.

Leg 2 · Wed, 09.09.

Oporto (Leixões)

Ibiza Bucht

About five kilometres north-west of the centre of Porto lies Leixões as the main port of northern Portugal on the Atlantic. From the deepwater harbour visitors reach Porto's old town, the UNESCO-listed Ribeira with the Dom Luís I bridge by Téophile Seyrig and the famous port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia on the southern bank of the Douro.

Leg 3 · Thu, 10.09.

Vigo (Galicien)

Klippen mit türkisfarbener Grotte im Mittelmeer

Vigo is Spain's largest fishing port and gateway to Galicia. The Cíes Islands off the coast (Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park) are among the most pristine beaches in Europe; the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela is one hour away.

Leg 4 · Sat, 12.09.

Bordeaux

Ruhige Ankerbucht mit Segelbooten im Mittelmeer

Bordeaux is the world's wine capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The neoclassical old town along the Garonne with Place de la Bourse and the Miroir d'Eau, the famous Médoc châteaux and the modern Cité du Vin make Bordeaux one of France's most elegant port cities.

Leg 5 · Mon, 14.09.

Santander

Santander is the elegant capital of Cantabria on Spain's northern coast, with long sandy beaches and the striking Palacio de la Magdalena overlooking the bay. Tapas bars and Belle Epoque architecture shape the city centre.

Leg 6 · Tue, 15.09.

Bilbao

Bilbao in the Basque Country is home to the Guggenheim Museum (Frank Gehry) - the building that coined the term "Bilbao effect". Pintxos bars in the old town, the funicular up Mount Artxanda and the nearby Costa Vasca shape the port.

Leg 7 · Wed, 16.09.

Gijon

On the Atlantic coast of northern Spain in Asturias, Gijón sits on the Bay of Biscay. The region's largest city impresses with the Cimavilla old quarter on a peninsula, the long seafront promenade at Playa San Lorenzo and the traditional sidra culture with Asturias' famous cider houses.

Leg 8 · Tue, 08.09.

Lissabon

Built on seven hills, Lisbon blends a southern European sense of life with a great history of discovery. From the Tower of Belém, Vasco da Gama and other navigators set out into the unknown - yellow trams and the melancholic Fado still tell the tale today.
